OPERATIONAL UPDATE
Salem Veterinary Hospital remains open and is actively monitoring the Covid-19 situation. With phase II reopening guidelines in place for the state of Virginia and the gradual easing of public health restrictions, we will be updating our protocols as follows...
Beginning June 9th:
1) Please remain in your car and call our office at 427-2222 when you arrive.
2) An employee will come out to your car and escort you inside when we are ready to see your pet. We will allow short wait times in our lobby as long as there is room to socially distance.
3) We are currently screening clients for illness and travel history with a few questions prior to entry into the hospital.
4) If you prefer curbside service and waiting in your car or outside while we see your pet, we will gladly accommodate you as well. Please see our protocol for curbside service.
IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE PUBLIC HEALTH RECOMMENDATIONS FACE COVERINGS WILL BE REQUIRED. PLEASE MAINTAIN PHYSICAL DISTANCE. STAY HOME IF YOU ARE HIGH RISK OR HAVE ANY COVID-19 SYMPTOMS AND CONTACT OUR OFFICE FIRST FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS.
ONLY ONE PET PARENT WILL BE ALLOWED INSIDE. NO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18 PLEASE.
We are committed to patient, client, and our SVH team's safety. Thank you for helping us to maintain that safety as we move into this next phase and for your understanding as we navigate reopening!

We are striving to stay committed to the well-being of our clients, their pets and our team here at SVH. In order to continue to provide the best of care, we are temporarily implementing a curb-side only protocol.
These guidelines are as follows:
- Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time as we are experiencing longer wait time due to COVID-19.
- When you arrive, please remain in your vehicle and call our front desk so that a receptionist may assist you. (757) 427-2222
- Our receptionist will gather any and all information required, whether it be for appointments, prescription pick-up, or if you have any questions you may need help with.
- If you are here for an appointment, our receptions will ask for your vehicle make, model, and color to ensure the appropriate location of parking spot. They will also ask for the best number by which to reach you. The assistant assigned to your appointment will then call you and take your pet's history prior to taking your pet inside.
- If dropping off, we will have you sign an authorization form at that time. The clipboard and disposable pen provided to you are disinfected.
- Your pet will then be brought into the clinic by your assigned veterinary assistant. Please ensure that your pet is secured with your leash before opening your car door and during the “hand-off” to our team member. You may leave your leash attached, but we will also place one of our leashes on your pet for added security. If your pet is in a carrier, please ensure all latches are secure before the “hand-off”.
- We ask that you please remain in the car and in the clinic parking lot during your pets’ exam performed in the clinic. You may also sit outside on one of our benches so long as you maintain a 6 foot distance from other clients.
- During your the examination, we will determine if any further diagnostics or treatment is needed. An estimate will be provided and either the doctor or your assigned assistant will verbally discuss that information over the phone for prior approval. Once the examination is complete, the doctor will call you to discuss any findings and answer any questions you may have.
- Our receptionist will collect all payments through the phone, either at the time of intake or after. A receipt will be brought out to you by one of our staff members with your pet.
